Imagine that you have a drip faucet in the bathroom or in the kitchen, and you are not able to block the water. The cold water supply ball valve, which is installed at the beginning of your distribution from the house riser, does not close completely. Common situation? Surely many who were in it, in a panic called the management company, phoned bulletin boards or simply searched for familiar plumber who would cope with this task. In fact, this phenomenon is not so rare. And this despite the fact that modern ball valves are almost the crown of plumbing. Their use is almost standardized. No house or apartment wiring can do without ball valves for hot and cold water. What then is the matter and why do such emergency situations still occur? Let's get together together.
The device of the ball valve
The base of the crane is a brass polished ball with a throughhole and a figured notch for the stem. The rotation of this type of crane is provided within 90 degrees. The movement of the ball inside the body softens the Teflon or Teflon gaskets, called saddles. Seals the stem clamping bushing with an external thread and a nut on the end. The body of the crane can be solid or divided into two parts, connected by threads. Most often it is produced from brass, choosing thickness for the walls with a margin of safety. But there are cheap models. Their case is made of silumin or lightweight brass, on which the manufacturer simply saved.
The way of reanimation of the ball valve
For the sake of justice, we warn you in advance that this option does not provide a 100% guarantee of the restoration of work ball valve. However, this is really the most correct way, which should be followed before its replacement. First you should try to develop a tap valve by hand. If the result is zero, do not force the crane and use pliers or adjustable wrenches for this, turning the butterfly handle over the fracture with force. This can only be worse, because you may not know what the tap itself is made of - high-quality brass or cheap silumin. The latter, by the way, breaks down once or twice, you just touch it with some kind of lever, and very quickly turns the bathroom and whole apartments into a cold water pool.
So, unscrew the euro-nut and remove the butterfly handle. Under it is the tip of the valve stem. In some cranes there is a hexagonal grommet that presses on the gland inside the valve. In the case when the stock rotates with difficulty, this sleeve should be slightly loosened.
Then with a wrench, carefully and slowly, slowly develop the rod, turning it from side to side. It is not worth making sudden movements in this case, otherwise you risk breaking the stem or ball, which will lead to complete breakage and seizure of the valve valve.
During this procedure, slight water stains can be formed at the top of the crane. This is a normal phenomenon when you consider that the clamping sleeve is loose.
To check the condition of the crane, you must put the butterfly on its seat, and try to turn the valve with it. Focusing on the risks on the body, you will immediately see the result. If you can turn the valve all the way, tighten the clamping sleeve and put the butterfly in place.
To avoid a situation in which the crane is coked with lime or metal deposits,1-2 times a month it is necessary to develop it, turning the valve to the maximum marks. Use only quality fittings from proven manufacturers. Do not save on such elements as ball valves, because breaking them can be very expensive. If you doubt your plumbing abilities, have a familiar plumber on the phone ready who can help out in difficult times and replace a faulty ball valve without fatal consequences. br>
