What is a compromise?

Often in conflict situations with different people we meet the word "compromise". What is a compromise and how to achieve it, you will learn from our article.

What does the word "compromise" mean

Translated from Latin, the term "compromise" means mutual agreement based on mutual concessions. That is, when we talk about compromise, we mean that both parties will achieve the desired result if they make concessions to each other. It is impossible to reach a compromise, only one of its sides will give it up in a conflict.

In order to reach a compromise, it is necessary to adhere to several rules.

  • Both parties should not only listen, but also hear the partner. That is, you must be 100% sure that your interlocutor correctly understands the thoughts and requirements you set forth. Accordingly, you also need to absolutely correctly understand what the interlocutor wants. It is impossible to reach a compromise if you or the other side of the conflict will stubbornly defend your point of view, not paying attention to the other.
  • As mentioned above, the result of the dialogue should lead to mutual benefit and mutual concessions. In a compromise, it is not allowed for one side to give up its position, while the other only gains.

If you and your partner follow both rules, then learn to reach a compromise in all situations, which means keep good relations with everyone around you.
