Why does a child often sneeze

A sneeze is a protective reflex, when a sharp exhalation removes dust, dirt or mucus from the nasopharynx. At the time of sneezing, the speed of air exhaled through the nose of an average person can reach 120 meters per second, while particles of mucus can spread to a distance of several meters.
Children, like adults, sneeze for a variety of reasons - for colds, excessive dustiness of the room, exposure of the nasopharynx to irritating substances (for example, black pepper dust), etc.
Newborns may sneeze for other reasons. Pediatricians believe that the sneezing of newborns is associated with the need to remove from the nasopharynx the mucus that has accumulated there during pregnancy. If a newborn sneezes during feeding, this is due to the fact that he has not yet fully formed the Eustachian tube - the canal connecting the throat with the middle ear.
Usually a child sneezes due to sharp fluctuations in ambient temperature (especially in the case of drafts)too dry or too humid indoor air, viral respiratory infections and catarrhal diseases, as well as allergic reactions to pet dander, flower pollen, etc. Some children may sneeze when they look at the sun.
If the baby sneezes rarely - most likely, you should not worry about it. Sneezing allows him to clear his airway. In addition, young children cannot blow themselves out and remove sludge from the nasopharynx with the help of sneezing.
Sometimes sneezing is the first sign of a cold. This is usually accompanied by a runny nose, fever and other symptoms. In this case, you can improve the condition of the child through inhalation. For this, it is enough to put chamomile, eucalyptus or mint leaves in a saucepan and pour boiling water over them. Give the child a breath of steam rising above the pan. In addition, you can use special inhalers, through which you need to inhale the nose with essential oils used in the treatment of colds.
To save the baby from sneezing, if it is not associated with an infection, you need to periodically air the room, do wet cleaning, walk with him more often on the street and give vitamins.
In case of a cold, it is recommended to wash the baby’s nose with saline and use vasoconstrictor preparations recommended by the pediatrician.
